When Should My Child Begin Let's Play Music?
Research has proven that age 4-5 is an ideal age for music instruction. The ears are at prime listening capacity and the brain is busy connecting a network of neurons. Let’s Play Music captures this opportunity window by training the ears without requiring the finger strength or dexterity that a piano does.
Whether you enroll your child as a young 4 year old, or older 5 year old is a personal decision. Your involvement and influence in your child's success is a key part of the Let's Play Music curriculum. This is why a parent attends every other week the first year, and once a month thereafter. As the head cheer leader, you will practice with your student as needed. Some parents have found that their child who started at barely 4 years old, has to stretch a little more to reach the piano keys the second year, at barely 5. This is fine, so long as the 2nd year student doesn't suddenly feel piano became hard to learn the second year and instead continues to have fun learning.
FUN is the foundation principle of Let's Play Music. Our goal as parents and educators is to perserve this fun while the children learn serious musical concepts. You might consider how many months past his or her fourth birthday your child will be when classes begin in the fall, as well as your child's hand size as you decide when to enroll you child in Let's Play Music. Another consideration might be to project how old your child will be upon graduation from Let's Play Music. A four year old first year student will be ready to advance to more group or private lessons at age seven, for example. The program was written for and is geared toward a 4 or 5 year old child. Exactly which year to enroll your child is a personal choice.
